Tonight’s concert looks set to be an entertaining mixture of old favourites and a few new songs, as we join Only Men Aloud, one of Wales’ singing sensations and their special guests.

With a wide repertoire, ranging from pop to traditional hymns and from ‘barbershop’ to folk songs, the boys are sure to entertain everyone in the Pavilion – and we can think of no-one better to start the week’s festivities!

Abergavenny’s first National Eisteddod in more than 100 years kicked off on Friday night with a rousing performance by Eisteddfod favourites Only Men Aloud.

Joining the eight strong group was soprano Gwawr Edwards, a familiar face to the Eisteddfod audience, both as a concert soloist and as a highly successful competitor. Now firmly recognised as the country’s best sopranos, she has performed in concert halls across the whole of the UK and beyond, and is a much sought-after soloist and performer throughout the country.

The concert, which was broadcast live by S4C also saw an Eisteddfod debut for singer and actress Rebecca Trehearn.

Well known as a performer here in Wales and further afield Rebecca has made a big impact in London’s West End, appearing in a number of shows, including Dirty Dancing and Ghost. She is currently starring in The Cruicible’s production of Showboat, directed by Daniel Evans.

The packed concert, which was held in the Eisteddfod’s state of the art new pavilion featured a mix of modern and traditional music, ending with a rousing tribute to Ivor Novello.
