CRICKHOWELL was the first town in Powys to ask for a road closure to hold a street party on the day of the Royal Wedding.
The organisers were delighted to get so much help from Powys County Council to make the arrangements and they were not charged a fee for the road closure order drawn up by the county council.
Steve Lewis of Number 18 restaurant is one of the organisers and he has paid for the insurance to cover a public event.
The party will take place in High Street from 5pm and there will be two barbecues and six high quality music acts throughout the evening.
There will be a bucket collection and a charity auction for the Help The Heroes charity.
But work on the street will start much earlier than that, with volunteers putting up bunting and decorations from 7am on Friday, April 29.
The road closure will be from five metres south of the fountain across the road, to allow for turning and drop off.
At the other end of the High Street - north of the Church Street / Tower Street junction the road will be coned off. Disabled car parking will be kept outside Askews, Webbs and Richards.
There will be free parking at the High School. Said Steve Lewis of the restaurant Number 18: "The street barbecue will be in the centre of the High Street and we will have a variety of stalls and attractions for all ages, up and down the road. There will be unrestricted pedestrian access to the streets throughout the event.
" We want this to be a fun, family evening and we can't do that without a great turnout.
"So we are asking local people to please come and bring a friend. We have capacity for 200 seated diners over the two sittings
" If you are in business give your permission to let us hang bunting from your Christmas tree and hanging basket brackets on High Street, donate a prize for the raffle or the Charity Auction.
" We need volunteers to help for a few hours on the night – we need stewards and some muscle to move tables, chairs and erect the stage between 5– 6pm and again at 10pm."
