Tickets are now on sale for the Spring 2016 Season at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny which runs from January to April 2016.
There’s a wealth of music this season, beginning with a recital by chamber ensemble The Solem Quartet, with an evening of Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Mendelssohn. Other music events include A Viennese Strauss Gala with soloists from major opera companies, Swansea City Opera’s production of La Boheme set in 1940’s Paris, the Budapest Café Orchestra playing gypsy music from Eastern Europe and a tribute to Billie Holiday Lady Sings The Blues. Tribute bands include the The ELO Experience, and Kast Off Kinks which features actual former members of the legendary 60s band The Kinks.
There’s comedy and music from Wales’ own Owen Money featuring music regularly heard on his popular Radio Wales show.
There’s some wonderful theatre including the timeless American classic The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams performed by Theatr Pena. Acclaimed solo performer Rebecca Vaughan returns to the Borough Theatre with Austen’s Women bringing alive the heroines of Jane Austen’s novels and Smash It Up is a dynamic show inspired by the demolition of the much loved Chartists Mural in Newport. Mr Bulkeley O’r Brynddu is a must for Welsh speakers and learners alike – a bi-lingual production bringing the 18th century to life.
Events for children and families include Windsongs of The Blessed Bay, based on a Welsh folktale and featuring live music and puppetry; a treat for the Easter holidays with The Marvellous Imaginary Menagerie and a delightful production of The Emperor’s New Clothes.
Dynamic street dancers Tentacle Tribe’s Pixelated Squid is inspired by tiny creatures of the land, sea and sky and choreographer Karol Cysewski’s Wonders of The Universe takes a humorous look at Brian Cox’s documentary of the same title.
As always, local community groups present a wealth of productions.
Abergavenny Theatre Group present Bram Stoker’s classic horror tale Dracula. This year the annual Mayor’s Charity Concert features the Borough Band as well as other local performers. The Abergavenny Pantomime Company present Sinbad during February half-term. There will be a St David’s Day Concert with local performers and two musical productions: Little Me performed by the Concept Players and Sister Act from AAODS. Monmouthshire Youth Dance Company present Ignite, an exciting project which has empowered the young dancers to commission their own professional choreographers.
Tickets are now on sale from the theatre’s Box Office on 01873 850805 or can be booked online at www.boroughtheatreabergavenny.co.uk
