After a five-year struggle to replace the Castle Meadows footbridge crossing the river Gavenny, after the previous bridge was deemed structurally unsound, the project is now complete.

The new footbridge will be officially unveiled to the public by the Mayor, Councillor Sheila Woodhouse on Saturday, October 19, at 11am, with the group meeting in the Mobility Centre in Castle Street car park at 10:40am.

Maureen Powell, councillor for Castle ward said, "I am so pleased that the bridge work is now complete, as it will be much nicer for people to not have to walk via the roads and up hills to get from their homes into the town.

"The walk across the bridge has a lovely view for people, and though it has been a long time coming, I hope people are happy that now they have a new safe bridge that they can walk across on their way into town. I know it will make such a difference to many people."
