Abergavenny Tourist Information Centre opened up in the Tithe Barn at St Mary's Priory Centre just in time for the bank holiday weekend. The staff had just one day to move everything across from the bus station site to the new location. Julie Townley, who is a Brecon Beacons National Park Information Assistant, has worked at the TIC since 1990. "Once we knew where we would be going, we wanted to do it as quickly and as painlessly as possible," she said. The TIC is now fully set up in the Tithe Barn with temporary desks, and there are plans over the next few weeks to get themselves more established on the site. Paul Thompson, manager of St Mary's Priory Centre was delighted for the Tithe Barn to host the TIC, and hopes that it can do both services some good. Paul said, "With all of the cuts from the BBNP and Monmouthshire County Council, we knew in good time that the TIC would be forced to move, and I had discussed early on that we would be interested in hosting the centre at the Tithe Barn. "The centre is so vital in a town like Abergavenny that relies on tourism, and we hope that hosting the TIC here can also give some good promotion to what we have here at the Priory Centre." Julie added, "With so many festivals coming to Abergavenny, and with the announcement of the 2016 Eisteddfod, having a Tourist Information Centre is really important, and we are so happy that the Tithe Barn has offered to accommodate us for the foreseeable future." The length of time the TIC will be based in the Tithe Barn is unknown. It may be for only a year until other plans are made, but until then, both parties are delighted to work with each other.
