The Abergavenny Scout group has officially launched its newly-installed climbing wall at the scout HQ in Fairfield Park.

The traversing climbing wall is 34ft long by 10ft high and runs the length of an entire wall. It offers varying levels of challenges for all age groups and is regarded as a good training ground for independence and judgement skill development.

The wall has been provided thanks to the generosity of the Gwent High Sheriff’s Community Fund and the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent Community Foundation Fund in Wales, Crime Proceeds.

The scouts also want to thank Robert Price Builders merchants, ABC Auto Factors and Heronhurst glaziers for the considerable material support they provided.

The wall was installed over the summer holidays by parents and leaders Morgan Jones, Ben Jones, Chris Short, Chris Betts and Jeremy Hill Cannon following professional advice and design considerations.

The climbing challenges are graded for age and skill and can be reconfigured to keep interest in the activity fresh.

All falls are readily protected by high density foam mats.

Scouting is currently such a popular activity in Monmouthshire District that the group has a joining list for most sections and would like to attract more adults as leaders to allow more young people to enter the movement.
