IN RECENT weeks several correspondents to Postbag have
mentioned the commemorative plaque on the A564 that
marked the opening of the new dual carriageway way
back at the end of May.
Around Gilwern there is still a great deal of work that
must need completing, as numerous bits of machinery,
construction materials and general rubbish are apparent.
Indeed, during my past few journeys I notice that the dual
carriageway is no longer two lanes but back to just one
with an abundance of cones suddenly appearing - no
evidence of workmen, just lots of cones.
Possibly, and I am just guessing at this point, this would
account for the removal of the plaque that commemorates
the opening of the dual carriageway. Perhaps, it had to be
removed so that another ceremony could take place when
somebody from Cardiff Bay returns to re-open the road
when it reverts to two lanes?
Or were part of the Welsh incorrectly translated on the
metal sheet that has mysteriously disappeared?
However, I would venture to suggest that the most logical
answer is that it has fallen on to the back of a lorry or van
or car.
