A quiz night at the Monmouthshire Livestock Centre raised £1,642.30 for farming families in financial hardship.
Farming charity RABI held its third quiz night at the livestock centre’s award-winning mart café and over 150 tickets were sold, making the evening a resounding success. A raffle was also held.
The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) helps people from the agricultural sector in financial need throughout Wales and England and in 2017 paid out grants of £269k to 187 families in Wales alone.
The Monmouthshire RABI committee organised the fundraiser with Sarah Byford MBE taking on the role of quizmaster. Chairman Gwilym Richards thanked people for supporting events throughout 2017, a year which saw the committee raise £7,500 in the county.
Quizzers enjoyed sausage and chips provided by staff at the livestock centre and various puddings were also prepared and served up by committee members. The winning quiz team was the Redbrook Ravers.
RABI regional manager for Wales, Linda Jones, said: “The challenges many farmers now face are set against a background of falling farm incomes and increasing input costs. The rising cost of living is affecting many families.”
RABI county committee member Lyn Bayliss added: “On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone at the livestock centre for their support, as well as Brooke’s Dairy, Bailey’s Garage, Penrhos Farm and Rhymney Brewery.”
