Monmouth MP David Davies backed the government decision to extend military action against ISIS into Syria in the Vote in Parliament this week.

Mr Davies said, "Last year people were horrified when Isis fighters in Iraq began attacking Kurdish villages, murdering the men, raping women and children and selling them as slaves.

"With the support of Parliament the Uk offered help to Iraqi victims in the form of air cover and missile strikes. This weeks decision means that planes will now be able to fly over the border to hit Isis positions in Syria.

"Isis want a global Islamic caliphate across the world and describe us in their own propaganda videos as "fornicators" and "sodomites" who must be destroyed. They have murdered citizens from across Europe and are planning further attacks on the UK. We absolutely have to deal with these people.

"We are not going to go and indiscriminately "bomb" Syria, in fact we are not going to drop any bombs at all. We will provide air support in mainly in the form of guided missiles which can be used to kill specific individuals or destroy specific vehicles. We do this with the support of the UN working with alongside other Muslim countries such as Turkey Iraq Iran and various Gulf States.

Whatever people’s views I do regret some of the abuse that has been thrown around by people. I have been to the Middle East a number of times. Amongst others I have met with then President of Syria, the leader of the Islamic terrorist Group Hamas, I have visited Iran and the West Bank and I feel I have a reasonable understanding of the region and a respect for its people. I am backing this action in order to reduce civilian casualties not to increase them

"I have put a full statement explaining my position onto my website although the best speech of the debate was from Labour’s Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Hilary Benn. Anyone thinking that there is no case for action should watch the speech online with an open mind.
