MONKSWOOD Cricket Club are dusting off the whites and gearing up for the forthcoming cricket season.
The winter nets and practise sessions have been well-attended and there is great optimism that the success of last season will be built on.
Last year saw Monkswood's first team promoted as champions with superb team and individual performances led by inspirational captain Rod Jones.
Jones will again be at the helm this season and the aim is to secure a consecutive promotion.
Monkswood's second and third teams also had good years. The seconds finished mid-table in their respective league and the third team won the PD Allen Cup.
This year Monkswood will be running a mid-week team to give their members an opportunity to play the 20/20 format of the game.
Junior cricket continues to be a huge success at this friendly club and this year they will be running teams at under 11, 13 and 15. An exciting development is the joint venture by Monkswood and Ponthir Cricket Club to form an under 17 team.
This year should see this ambitious club achieving the prestigious Clubmark accreditation qualification and plans to modernise the club's facilities are well advanced.
All-in-all the 2010 cricket season should be one to remember for the members of this up and coming cricket club.
