THIS Saturday at Bailey Park, Abergavenny RFC will host a memorial charity match in memory of 21-year-old Lewis Smith who died last January at Gwernyfed RFC whilst playing for the Abergavenny Quins.

The months following have been very difficult for all at the club and the Welsh Rugby Union have specially extended the season for this one game and are providing three referees for the game, which will feature all of Lewis' closest friends at the club who played with him from the under eights until present.

The Old Smithonians will consist of players who played with Lewis up until he was 16 and will form the side who will play the Quins.

Abergavenny RFC, who boast one of the strongest Minin and Junior sections in the country, with full squad compliments in every age group through to senior level, have organised another tournament at the Usk Showground for the last Bank Holiday in May.

Monies raised from programme sales shall be put towards a bench seat within Bailey Park dedicated to Lewis' memory and any surplus funds will be donated to Lewis' family's chosen charity for this event - Diabetes UK.

Following this Saturday's game all supporters are invited back to the clubhouse as guests of the club.

Food will be provided and also a Karaoke for players and supporters wishing to join in singing some of Lewis's favourites.

The club would like to thank Welsh Legend Scott Quinnell who helped prepare The Old Smithonians for the game with a master class at training last night after being approached by team manager Jim Aitken.

The cup established in Lewis's memory, will be contested for the first time in this Saturday's Memorial game at Bailey Park. Kick-off is at 2.30pm.
