AN ABERGAVENNY road which is littered with potholes is to be resurfaced next month.

Monmouthshire County Council's Head of Highways and Infrastructure, Nigel Burgess, told the Bryn y Cwm Area Committee Meeting that Lion Street, "is one of the worst roads in Bryn y Cwm," and that Winter weather had caused a three month pothole repair backlog.

The resurfacing of Lion Street will take place before or very soon after the opening of the Brewery Yard on June 10.

In a presentation to councillors Mr Burgess said that the number of emergency repairs had cost some £1.315 million - double the department's normal committed spend.

The Welsh Assembly Government has £2.75 million to distribute to council's for highways, this funding is shared out according to road length with MCC receiving £85K.
