Monmouthshire County Council staff raised over £200 for the Alzheimer’s Society by joining in the festive fun of an Elf Day Staff donned elf hats, t-shirts, stripy tights or full blown elf attire and gave a donation of a pound for the pleasure of dressing up and helping to raise money for a charity close to the heart of many at the authority. Elf Day took place in many organisations and workplaces across England and Wales.

The council’s Health and Safety Manager Laurence Dawkins became ‘Elf and Safety’ officer for the day while staff from the Fostering Team, Abergavenny Community Hub, Contact Centre and The Youth Service all became Santa’s helpers for the day. The Abergavenny Community Hub team even had an Elf on the Shelf getting up to all sorts of mischief throughout December.

The Alzheimer’s Society believes that life doesn’t end when dementia begins. The charity helps anyone affected by dementia, and does everything it can to keep people with dementia connected to their lives and the people who matter most.

Dementia can happen to anyone and there’s currently no cure. There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the number is set to rise to a million by 2021.
