Chris Jones, son of Abergavenny Mayor Maureen Powell, and his wife Sam were delighted to complete the London Marathon on Sunday.
It was a particular achievement for Sam, who suffers from Crohn’s Disease and arthritis and has recently been diagnosed with Lupus - yet, despite requiring regular treatment, manages to hold down an exacting job.
Sam’s chosen charity was Arthritis Research and Chris’s was the Lawrence Dilaglio Trust.
Thanks to their efforts both charities will receive more than £4,000.
Councillor Powell was in London to see the couple’s marathon run - although was disappointed that while she witnessed Sam crossing the finishing line, missed her son’s triumphant return.
"Sam actually arrived back before Chris because he damaged his hamstring during the race. We thought we’d missed him so left the finishing line about ten minutes before he crossed," said Councillor Powell.
