Mardy U13 - 0

Llanyravon U13 - 2

IN what was a great advert for the Torfaen and East Gwent league, the lads from the Mardy U13 side were just beaten to a Tesco cup final slot by Llanyravon who poached two goals in the final five minutes.

Mardy started the game with their top goal scorer Rhys Thomas missing due to an injury from the previous week and were soon put under the cosh by some good football from Llanyravon.

Josh Martin caused Mardy loads of problems with some good runs and passing from midfield.

Following an injury to Ollie Davies, Mardy were forced to shuffle their side with Ellis Jenkins going in goal and Harry Trett at left back.

The changes proved just the ticket and Mardy started to get a purchase on the game with Thomas Rees making some excellent runs.

In the second-half, Mardy looked the more likely to score first, especially when Rees took the game by the scruff of the neck and beat three players on a surge from midfield only to be taken down on the edge of the box.

Unfortunately the resulting free kick wasn't capitalised upon.

The Mardy midfield began to dominate the game with some clever passing and some good tackles to keep the Llany team quiet, but five minutes from the final whistle it all went to hell when Llanyravon's Josh Martin threaded the ball through for his team to score.

Mardy had little time to bounce back and pushed Adrian Jones from defence bag an equaliser. However, Llanyravon broke and their striker got dragged down in the box by the Mardy keeper.

The penalty was awarded and up stepped the Llanyravon right back who put the game safely to bed.
