GWENT County's Mardy AFC recently held their awards evening for the 2008/09 season and the results are as follows.

First team player of the year - Gary Barrell.

First team R/U player of the year - Gareth Williams.

Second team player of the year - Huw Llewellyn.

Second team R/U player of the year - Mathew Wools.

Managers award (first team) - Gareth Williams.

Club man of the year - Mathew McCarthy.

Highest goal scorer (first team) - Gary Barrell.

Highest goal scorer (second team) - Mathew Lynch.

Most improved player (first team) - Lewis Edwards.

Most improved player (second team) - Daniel Palmer.

Presentation - Tony and Clare of the Belmont Pub.

 

Jamie Woods was awarded an 'Appreciation' tankard for his second season as secretary.

Mardy AFC will be 112 years old next season and the club hope to arrange a charity match and an evening for past and present players and committee men

Matthew McCarthy will be managing the first team for the forthcoming season and Mr Jade Kelly will be at the helm for the seconds.

Pre-season training has already began at the Mardy playing fields every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6.30pm. New players are always welcome.
