FEELING flushed about issues at Abergavenny’s public toilets? A town councillor is calling on you to voice your concerns.
Councillor John Prosser wants YOU to take part in an informal ‘Toilet Watch’ scheme to keep a firm eye on blockages, bad smells, and graffiti at the four public convenience sites in town.
He said, “I know it might sound like a silly idea when you first hear about it, but Abergavenny is a tourist town, and we need clean and efficient toilets to cater to visitors needs.
“This includes the toilets at the bus station, White Horse Lane, the Brewery Yard, and the Castle car park.”
The call has come after Councillor Nick Tatam raised concerns at the January town council meeting about the poor state of the Brewery Yard toilets during the Food Festival’s winter weekend.
Councillor Prosser said, “There have been some issues at the toilets throughout town which have remained unreported for days.
“The only way that these will be resolved is if members of the public report them.
“I urge them to either report public toilet issues to the One Stop Shop, or email me directly so that I can get in touch with council officers who can sort them out as soon as possible.”
Though MCC faces stringent budget cuts, Councillor Prosser is an advocate of keeping all the public facilities in town open and in use.
Abergavenny Town Council is currently negotiating with the local authority over the possibility of claiming responsibility for the care of all the town’s public conveniences.
