Shake off Christmas and New Year excesses with a bird walk led by ornithological expert Steve Butler this Saturday (January 9) in Castle Meadows, Abergavenny - home of the 2016 National Eisteddfod.

Among the birds seen in past winter walks in the Meadows were the cormorant, buzzard, greenfinch, goldfinch, little grebe, mallard, goosander, three red kites, great spotted woodpecker, dipper and raven.

Walkers, who will need to wear suitable footwear, should meet at 9.30am in the Byfield Lane car park.

The free walk, organised by the Friends of Castle Meadows, is subject to weather conditions. If the Meadows are flooded, the walk will go through Linda Vista Gardens instead. Please see friendsofcastlemeadows.wordpress.com/
