Llanfoist Primary School pupil Brooke Carey-White, aged six, decided that her first haircut was going to be a memorable occasion.
So she donated her golden locks to the Little Princess Trust, the charity that provides real-hair wigs and hair pieces for children who have suffered hair loss due to cancer treatment - raising nearly £400 into the bargain.
“It was Brooke’s decision completely,” said her mum Kathy, who supervised the big event with Brooke’s younger brother Dexter. “We’d watched some of the brilliant, informative videos about the charity online and she felt she was lucky that her hair would grow back when for some children it won’t.”
“I think it’s a big thing for any girl to have her long hair cut off - and a huge shock for me to see it for the first time! - but I’m so proud of her.
“Sue’s Salon in Abergavenny made her feel like a VIP and donated their charge to charity.
“She’s already raised more than £200 online and nearly £200 from sponsorship forms. She’s absolutely ecstatic that she’s done so well.
“She loves her new look and her friends have made a real fuss of her!”
