FIELDING a full strength team for the first time this season, Llanarth U15 XI inflicted a crushing defeat on premier division side Sudbrook in their own backyard.

Batting first in extremely windy conditions the Llanarth batsmen were soon into their stride as the Sudbrook bowlers struggled to find a consistent line and length.

Will Glenn was particularly severe on anything loose and the score raced to 33 off three overs. Despite losing his opening partner in the fourth over Glenn continued to play his shots and was joined by Peter Downing who exhibited a few of his own.

The pair flayed the bowling mercilessly and heaped further misery on the opposition with their excellent running, taking impossible singles and even running a four.

Their partnership stretched to 147 before Downing was finally out for 61 in the last over trying one big shot too many.

Glenn finished on 88 not out and showed why he is now playing regular first team cricket.

The final score a formidable 186 for two was always going to be a tough ask for the home side and when they lost one of their best batsmen in the second over, the writing was on the wall. Sudbrook skipper Ferryman did his best with some strong hitting, but with little assistance from his team-mates was unable to maintain the required scoring rate.

The introduction of the Llanarth spinners Glenn and Rhys Willbourn who bowled beautifully further restricted the scoring and they each picked up a wicket, Glenn eventually bowling Ferryman for a useful 44.

With further wickets for Will (Calvin Klein) Beach and George Davies and all hope of victory gone the Sudbrook tailenders contented themselves with batting out the overs with their number nine Cath Taylor playing some of the best shots of the innings to finish with 20 not out.

Taylor's display left many wondering why she had not been higher in the batting order. Llanarth can now look forward to a trip to Newport or Usk in the next round.
