IN a brush with madness, a local woman has had her hair shaved off for charity.
Liz Cashell let loose her luscious shoulder-length locks to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support at an event in Abergavenny’s Conservative Club recently.
The hardworking mother of two was inspired to raise money for Macmillan after meeting nurses from the charity, who cared for Liz’s grandmother during her battle with lung cancer 12 years ago.
The evening at the ‘Con Club’ included a DJ who hosted karaoke, and a charity raffle, as well as the head shave.
Friends, family, and others attended after purchasing £2 tickets from the Premier Store in Mardy, which is run by Liz’s brother-in-law.
More than £750 was raised during the night from sponsorship, the raffle, and from a cheeky few who paid for the privilege of cutting off chunks of Liz’s hair.
The now-hairless school supervisor is still collecting money from sponsors and believes that the total raised will eventually stand at a hair-raising £1,300!
Sue Lenthall, a family friend who attended the charity evening, was delighted with the outcome.
She said, “Liz is a very caring, supportive, and fun person with a bonkers sense of humour. This is the second time that she has raised money for charity this way.”
She added, “The evening was great fun, everyone had a good time and we are all proud of Liz.”
