A treasure hunt organised by the Forgotten Abergavenny Facebook page and The Abergavenny Chronicle will take to the streets of the town on Sunday April 27 to discover more about the its hidden history. Fun facts such as how Owain Glyndwr entered the town in 1404 where the chip shop in Market Street now stands will form part of the questions that the hunters will need to solve to win prizes. Starting at 11am at Fairfield car park, the treasure hunt will encourage participants to solve clues based on past events and places in the town and there are a number of prizes donated by local businesses on offer for correct entries. For nearly two years, the team from the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University have been working with different communities in Abergavenny to find out more about the history and culture of the town and its people. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the treasure hunt was inspired by the popularity of the 'Forgotten Abergavenny' Facebook pages which now has over 2,600 supporters. "We have found that people are really interested in the past history of Abergavenny and in sharing information with others," said Professor Valerie Walkerdine. "This hunt provides a history trail that gives the community a lasting walk that tells people about their local history and also allows visitors to learn more about Abergavenny's past." The hunt will run from 11am until 1pm and prizes have been donated by local businesses including Carpanini's, The Leather & Tobacco Shop, Hoffi Coffee, H.J Edwards, The Optic Shop, Love Lily, Abergavenny Music , Goodie's Women's Wear , M&D Cycles, Sweet Green Cottage and The Abergavenny Chronicle.
