KHS Year 11 pupils have enjoyed a fantastic GCSE results day with the school’s headteacher Jonathan Watson praising the students for their resilience, ambition, work ethic and positive approach to learning.
Mr Watson told the Chronicle, “Huge congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils on your fantastic GCSE results that you received today. They reflect your amazing efforts and determination to achieve highly, your unwavering willingness to embrace challenge with positivity, and your determination and courage to never give up.
“There has been another significant rise in our Capped 9 score. This is now 400.2, the highest in King Henry VIII 3-19 school’s history, and an increase of 32.7 points from when our new school opened in 2023. This score is the main measure for schools in Wales, it includes the grades in the top nine subjects, including literacy, numeracy, and science, for every pupil. On average, this means that every pupil now achieves 2As, 3Bs, and 4Cs. The national average score will be known soon, in 2025 it was 354.3. Well done all.”
The headteacher added, “The school’s results are above national averages, significantly so in English and Mathematics (9.4% above in A*-C English Language and 11.4% above in A*-C Mathematics). 25% of all our pupil grades are A*-A, five percent above the national average. 28.4% of our pupils achieved A*-A in the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge, 9.9% above the national average. We are so proud of you all.”
