Local volunteer group Keep Abergavenny Tidy have been busy this week with two litter-picks taking place in town. Volunteers got in the spooky spirit on Saturday October 30 with their Halloween Litter Pick, which was followed by their regular monthly litter pick on Tuesday November 2. A total of 14 volunteers joined in the Halloween litter pick, meeting in St John’s Square and spending an hour litter picking spread across the town. The volunteers collected three bags of cans and plastic bottles, 14 orange bags of general litter, 40 surgical masks and 8 pairs of surgical gloves. The group also noticed three separate incidents of fly-tipping in the town and have reported this to Monmouthshire County Council, with the fly-tipped material due to be collected within 5 days according to the council’s website. Thankfully the weather stayed kind to the volunteers with the sun coming out and the town busy, with volunteers receiving plenty of support from the public whilst out on their litter picks. The Halloween litter pick was an extra one planned for the end of half-term. KAT arranges a regular litter pick on the first Tuesday of the month.
