FRIENDLY, flexible transport for local people who have difficulty accessing public transport will soon be on offer in Abergavenny thanks to the town’s Rotary Club and the Bridges Centre.
The car scheme, which will use volunteer drivers and administration staff, will work closely with the existing Bridges Community Connections Befriending Project.
Befriending coordinator, Amanda Brake stated, ‘We are working together to help local people feel less isolated. We do this by providing a befriending service for local older people who feel lonely.
‘This service will provide friendly, flexible transport for people who have difficulty accessing public transport or face barriers using taxi services or existing community transport services.
‘Our drivers, who are fully registered, are matched up with clients to make the journey as pleasant and efficient as possible.
‘This is a new scheme and we are still building up a base of volunteer drivers and clients. If you have any time to spare and would like to become a volunteer driver or if you would like to use the scheme, then call us on 07741 572 897.
