TWO-wheeled dynamo Becky James has once again outlined her credentials as a serious contender for London 2012 after storming to two gold medals at Manchester's National Track Championships.

The Abergavenny teen tornado capitalised on the absence of Olympic champion Victoria Pendleton and delivered a faultless performance in last Friday's women's sprint and Sunday's Keirin race.

Beijing sprint gold winner Pendleton, opted to pull out of the individual events and concentrate on the women's team sprint, which she won alongside Jess Varnish.

In Pendleton's absence, 19-year-old James wasted no time in staking her claim for next year's Olympics after she beat her rival Varnish to secure both the Keirin title and sprint crown.

A delighted James explained, "A few weeks ago I was under the weather and thought I'd really struggle at the nationals,

"My form wasn't great but then all of a sudden my form came. It was really good because I hadn't catered for the event because my main target is the Kazakhstan World Cup in four weeks' time."

With James, Varnish and Pendleton all locked in a three way fierce and frantic competition for one spot in the keirin and sprint individual events at London 2012, the Aber speedster has a lot of ground to cover before she can live her Olympic dream.

James admitted, "Winning the nationals has given my a lot of confidence, but it's going to be really hard to get selected for the Olympics.

"I'm keeping my head down, training hard. If it all works out, then it works out. It's a good target to chase."

And the chase is still very much alive for the talented Abergavenny athlete who could well follow in the "hoofsteps" of Harry Llewellyn and his trusted steed Foxhunter, and bag an Olympic gold.
