IN a goal filled thriller which ended 7-7 after extra time, Govilon just managed to claw their way to the next round of the County Motors cup after beating Cwmffrwdoer 6-5 on penalties.
Govilon took an early lead ten minutes in when Craig Norman scored from a Gareth Roberts cross.
15 minutes later and Roberts replaced Sam Morris in the Govilon goal after the keeper sustained an injury.
Cwmffrwdoer equalised only for Govilon to retake the lead through Mathew Heritage with an assist from Richard McCarthy, to make it 2-1 to Govilon at the interval.
The second half turned out to be a goal fest with the visitors scoring in the first two minutes. Govilon regained the lead through Mathew Stephens, but once again Cwmffrwdoer scored to level the match. Ten minutes in the Cwmffrwdoer took the lead for the first time, but once again up popped Stephens to level affairs.
Cwmffrwdoer struck again and they led 4-5 until the last two minutes when Govilon's Craig Thomas scored the goal to take the match to extra time.
Govilon took the lead through Craig Norman, but yet again Cwmffrwdoer were soon playing catch up. Ben Bannon restored Govilon's lead but then the inevitable happened and the game ended 7-7
The penalties did not start well for Govilon, whose first one was saved by the Cwmffrwdoer keeper, but stand-in Roberts in the Govilon Goal also made a fine save to send the match into sudden death.
Rhys Whiteman stepped up to convert his penalty, and Gareth Roberts become the hero of the day by making a second save which guaranteed Govilon passage into the next round.
Elsewhere in the County Motors Cup, the Abergavenny Thursdays were kicked out 2-5 by RTB Ebbw Vale and in round one of the Welsh Cup, Goytre beat Aberaeron 3-0.
