THE first glimpse of what a new superstore in Abergavenny could look like have been revealed.
Designs for a new Morrisons on the Cattle Market site have been released exclusively to the Abergavenny Chronicle, before they go on display at a public exhibition this week.
The computer generated design (pictured) was revealed weeks after Monmouthshire county council exchanged contracts with the supermarket giant to build a store on the Cattle Market site in the town centre.
The exhibition will give residents the opportunity to see and comment on the plans for the store which will have a 25,000 square feet or sales area and bring 280 full or part-time jobs to the town. Representatives of the store will be on hand to discuss the proposals.
The exhibitions take place on Wednesday, September 8 from 9.30am to 8pm at St Mary's Priory Centre in Monk Street and then on Thursday 9 September between 9am and 4pm in the Market Hall.
The plans are expected to go before Monmouthshire council's planning committee later this year. The company are still consulting on all aspects of the proposal, the images are for the purpose of the public exhibition.
As well as getting the chance to have a look at he plans, residents will also see what the town's new library will look like.
Monmouthshire County Council will also show their proposals for a library and will be asking for feedback on their regeneration plan.
Colin Phillips, Regeneration Officer at Monmouthshire County Council, said, "The project is a great opportunity to provide an exciting new library facility that Abergavenny can be proud of. We'd like people to ask us questions and tell us what they think about the library plans - everyone is welcome."
•The view offered is from Market Street, looking towards the new store (right) and library (left) and pedestrian walkway through to Fairfield car park and Bailey Park beyond and offers an indication of what the new store and library could look like.
