VISITORS to Blaenavon Ironworks got a taste of life behind the lines during the World War One on the weekend, encountering jovial French priests, field nurses, blacksmiths, balladeers singing the hits of 1918 and stoic war horses.
The re-enactment supported the Royal British Legion’s appeal in the centenary year of the 1918 Armistice and local historians were on hand to recount tales of South Wales in the Great War and assist in family history research through Blaenavon archives.
