An inquest into the death of a young Crickhowell woman was launched on Monday.

Sophie Brimble, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene on King Street, Brynmawr, at 12.15am on Wednesday, July 26.

Miss Brimble was killed whilst riding as a passenger in a Volkswagen Polo driven by a 24-year-old man who remains in a serious but stable condition at Heath Hospital, Cardiff.

Opening the inquest, Gwent coroner David Bowen said the car had left the carriageway and collided with a metal post.

The inquest was adjourned until November, whilst police investigations continue.

Miss Brimble’s body has been released to her family for funeral purposes.
