Mardy Tigers U16's - 4
Cadoxton Imps U16's - 1
THE Mardy Tigers U16 side have booked their place in this Sunday's Tesco Cup Final against Crickhowell after an emphatic victory over the Cadoxton Imps.
Dominating possession during the first half, the Tigers struggled to find the final pass, and against a resolute defence knew they would have to be patient.
The breakthrough came after 15 minutes when a corner from Kate Jeremiah was slotted home neatly by striker Amy Thrupp to settle the nerves.
To their credit the Imps fought back well and on the stroke of half-time a cross from the right was bundled home to level the score at the break.
The Tigers knew they could play better and came out all guns blazing in the second-half, giving their large band of travelling support much more to cheer.
A steady supply of constant pressure ensured it was only a matter of time before the Tigers darkened the Imps' goal-mouth, and when the goal did come it came from the same source as the first.
A pinpoint Jeremiah corner was put away by captain Jade Edwards to give the Tigers a lead they would retain.
The Abergavenny youngsters piled on the pressure and with left back Rhian Cleverly and left winger Zoe Simmonds in awesome form, more goals seemed very much imminent.
And so it proved, as a superb brace from star striker Amy Thrupp in the final 10 minutes gave her a cup hat-trick to treasure, whilst sealing a comfortable victory for the Tigers.
Coach Wayne Jeremiah was full of nothing but praise for his young side after the final whistle and said, "A cup final place is fantastic reward for what is in effect an U.15's squad and whilst we know we'll be underdogs against Crickhowell next Sunday - the Tigers will certainly relish the challenge."
Mardy Tigers U12's - 1
Pantyscallog Village U12's - 0
MARDY Tigers U12 completed their South Wales Girls' League campaign on Sunday morning with a hard fought 1-0 win over Pantyscallog Village.
As it stands the Tigers now sit on top of the league, but can only sit and wait for other results to come in, as the clubs below them still have a couple of games in hand.
Amazingly the Tigers hit the woodwork five times in the first half against Pantyscallog, and knowing only a win would do to keep the pressure on teams below them they began to wonder if it was going to be their day.
With just minutes remaining some good work down the right from player of the match Alana Murphy saw her combine with striker Jemma Davies to cross the ball for midfielder Shauna Pentney.
Pentney beat the last line of defence to find the net and give the Tigers a well deserved victory, which keeps them, for now at least, top of the league.
