CONES and a speed limit is in place on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road.

A Welsh Assembly Government spokesperson today confirmed that essential minor completion works to the verge need to be carried out.

It was also confirmed that the commemorative plaque which was uncovered at the opening of the section of road has been stolen.

"Traffic cones and a 50mph speed limit have been installed temporarily on the A465 between Hardwick Roundabout (Abergavenny) and Glanbaiden Roundabout (at Gilwern) to ensure the safety of the road user and the work force whilst essential minor completion works to the verge areas are carried out.

"The commemorative plaque which was uncovered at the opening of this section of road has sadly been stolen, we have made arrangements for it to be replaced."
