Abergavenny’s own Elvis was officially recognised by the town council recently for his work in raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes.
Keith Davies will now have his name pinned to the town honours board the town hall in recognition of his 15-years-plus charity efforts which have raised £357,000 for a panoply of good causes including £15,000 for the NSPCC, £9,000 for the Red Cross, £12,000 for Ty Hafan, and another £8,000 for Nevill Hall Hospital.
Over 223 concerts in total, Elvis has also helped donate thousands of pounds for local organisations such as Abergavenny Thursdays (now Abergavenny Town) FC and St Teilo’s, and St Mary’s churches.
Councillor David Simcock, who nominated Keith for a position on the board, said he had become a “popular Abergavenny institution”.
“This nomination will provide permanent recognition of Keith Davies’s achievement and service to Abergavenny through his fundraising for local and other organisations,” said Councillor Simcock.
“Keith Davies and the Memphis Mafia provide their services entirely from their own pockets, and have provided entertainment and enjoyment for a great number of Abergavenny people.”
