A COUPLE from Abergavenny have been presented with a special award in acknowledgement of their voluntary work they carry out with a wide variety of local groups.
The High Sheriff of Gwent, Dame Claire Clancy DCB DL met David and Margaret Spencer to formally hand over the award during a presentation which took place at the Livestock Market in Raglan.
Dame Claire Clancy has been greatly impressed by the unsung heroes within charity and voluntary groups who give so freely of their time.
She wanted to recognise achievements of members of the community who help make Gwent a caring, safe and inclusive place to live.
Chairman of Monmouthshire County Council, Sheila Woodhouse nominated Mr & Mrs David Spencer for this award in recognition of both of their contributions to many voluntary groups and organisation throughout Monmouthshire and Wales.
Among the groups and organisation which David and Margaret are involved are the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, Monmouthshire Agricultural Club, Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institute, King Henry V111 Former Pupils Association, Abergavenny ISCA Probus Club, Melin Housing Association, Llantilio Pertholey Women’s Institute, St. Teilo’s Church Mardy, and Nevill Hall Hospital League of Friends.
Whilst presenting the award Dame Claire said she was absolutely ‘blown away’ by the extent of voluntary activities carried out by David and Margaret Spencer, and was delighted to present them with a High Sheriff’s Award.
