The family of young Abergavenny boy Jacob Jones, who is fighting a rare type of cancer have issued an update on his health following further MRI scans over the Christmas period.

Before Christmas we informed our readers of an update on Jacob’s condition with his family and friends confirming scans had found there to be lumps on Jacob’s lungs, resulting in the need for further scans on his abdomen and chest to see whether his cancer had returned.

On New Year’s Eve an update on Jacob’s health was posted on Jacob’s Fight Facebook page, with a spokesperson for Jacob’s family writing: “We would like to update you on Jacobs results.

‘‘Sadly we have been informed that cancer has been detected in his liver.

‘‘The one kidney where he had the tumour taken from is no longer working for him. The lumps in his lung have been there a while and have not changed at all so the consultant is not concerned about these.

“Jacob’s parents Emma and Alwyn will be seeing the consultant a week Tuesday so will hopefully know more then and a plan put in place, so please send your prayers and good wishes.

“Thank you for all your continued support.”

Following the sad news the post was greeted with an outpouring of messages on the Facebook page, with many people posting comments offering their best wishes and support to Jacob and his family and promising to keep him in their thoughts at this difficult time.

The Chronicle and our members of staff would also like to offer our best wishes and support towards Jacob and his family.

Members of the public have also very kindly offered to donate some of their money towards Jacob’s battle and treatment, so Jacob’s family and friends have decided to put bank account details on Jacob’s Facebook page for those who would like to donate.

The details are as follows: Barclays Bank, Jacobs fight, Account number: 33530574 Sort code: 20-18-17.

Jacob’s family would again like to thank everyone for their kind donations and support.
