Goytre - 5
Caldicot Town -1
GOYTRE kickstarted their string of pre-season of
friendlies with a powerhouse of a performance from
seasoned player Andy Walsh, which saw the Welsh
League Division Three outfit destroy Caldicot Town to
the tune of 5-1.
After an even twenty minutes Graham Mason put
the home-side in front with a mazzy run that saw him
beat two defenders and the keeper before slotting the
ball into the net to make it 1-0 at half-time.
New signings Mark Jones and Matthew Cameron
fitted in well with the Plough Road side, and it was
Jones who nudged Goytre further ahead with a well-
struck penalty after Graham Mason was brought down
in the box.
However, it was the introduction of old hand
Walsh who turned the tide of the game completely in
Goytre's favour with a hat-trick in the space of 15
minutes.
The third goal was probably the pick of the
bunch, when Walsh's delicate chip from 25 yards out,
flew over the keeper and into the top corner of the net.
Goytre's new keeper Gareth Williams brought off
two first class saves to cap a fine debut, and Caldicot
only managed to sneak a ball past him through the
finest of strikes.
Goytre's next friendly will see them pit their wits
against the Premier Division's Neath Athletic at Plough
Road this Saturday with a 2.30pm kick-off.
