Gwent Police are launching an on-line Christmas campaign, with a number of messages aimed at keeping everyone safe over the festive period.

The campaign this year centres on an elf who has gone on the run from a high security unit, where he was serving time at Her Majesty’s pleasure for general naughtiness last Christmas.

The message is that officers have information to suggest that he’s planning a seasonal crime wave and that he may be recruiting apprentice elves to help him.

The public are warned to keep alert to the dangers of elf activity in the area.

You can follow his antics at facebook.com/gwentpolice and twitter.com/gwentpolice. You can also follow the hashtag #ElfandSafety

Please report any sightings to Gwent Police by sending photographic evidence either by Facebook Inbox or by tweeting @gwentpolice

The campaign, whilst light-hearted, conveys important information about home security, alcohol related violence and personal safety to name a few topics.

Head of Neighbourhood Policing for Gwent Police, Chief Superintendent Emma Ackland said, “We want everyone to enjoy the festive period but to do so safely. Christmas is a time for us all to celebrate and have fun but others may see it as an opportunity to take advantage of people who have left themselves susceptible to crime, often without even realising it.

“We will be issuing messages each day throughout December in an effort to cut crime and keep you safe. Will we be able to get the naughty elf back behind bars before Christmas? Just follow us on Facebook and Twitter @gwentpolice to find out.”
