There was some exciting news for green-fingered residents of Mardy last week, following a decision by Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet.
The Mardy Allotments Society has now got the go-ahead to develop a new allotment site in Nantgavenny Lane on a piece of land adjacent to the railway line.
The plots will be created on a piece of land leased from a local farmer, with the costs met from a Section 106 grant allocated by MCC at its Cabinet meeting on February 3.
Section 106 funding is created from developer contributions arising from local housing developments, in this case the development of the former Croesonen Infants School site.
With such a big demand for new allotments in the county, the decision will come as welcome news for those that are currently on the waiting list in the Abergavenny area.
At the same meeting grants were also allocated to the Llantilio Pertholey Community Centre Committee to redevelop the ‘tiny tots’ play area to the rear of the Community Centre and to the Llanddewi Skirrid Village Hall Committee to install some new audio visual equipment at the village hall.
