PLANNING permission has been granted for a replacement cattle market at Bryngwyn, near Raglan.

Councillor Bob Greenland, deputy leader with responsibility for regeneration said, Last years decision of the committee to grant permission was challenged by local landowner, Jack Hanbury Tenison. To avoid the delays likely in an overburdened legal system, AMAL and Monmouthshire County Council requested the courts to quash the original decision.

Mr Hanbury Tenisons application to challenge the decision was made on the grounds of some perceived missing technical information and this has now been addressed through the revised application.

It is of course possible, even likely, that someone will seek to delay the process again through a request for a judicial review.

If that happens, I am sure the council will defend the action through to its conclusion. We have taken every precaution to ensure that such a challenge would not succeed. We have consulted with our lawyers and a leading planning barrister to try to prevent any further delay.
