Tranch - 4
Govilon - 3
GWENT County Division Two outfit Govilon slumped to their first defeat of the season with a lacklustre defensive display against a well organised Tranch outfit.
The warning signs came early as Tranch's John Hanratty twice tested Morrison in the Govilon goal within the first ten minutes.
Despite this it was Govilon who opened the scoring in what proved to be the most flowing movement of the game, when Jamie Laurent's run along the left touchline saw him slip the ball to Richard McCarthy whose cross found Matthew Stephens charging into the box to score.
This lead lasted no more than two minutes before Chris Bradbury with his back to goal was allowed to turn and fire a low shot across Morrison to equalise.
Further Tranch pressure saw Morrison produce a string of saves before Govilon edged ahead for the second time, when Robert Frost was on hand at the far post to meet Matthew Prosser's pinpoint cross to give Govilon a 2-1 interval lead.
Tranch's Darren Parry shot wide shortly after the re-start and then brought his side level with a fierce shot following a goalmouth scramble.
More Govilon woe followed a minute later when Paul Price's long throw, which was a danger all afternoon, was met by Hanrattly close to the Govilon goal-line, and his back header deceived Morrison as Tranch went ahead for the first time in the game.
Govilon almost drew level on the hour when Richard McCarthy spun in the box to fire in a shot on the volley, but this unfortunately flew over the bar.
Tranch increased their lead to 4-2 when their Parry/Hanratty combination clicked again.
With 10 minutes left, Govilon's Craig James was felled in the box, and up stepped McCarthy to score with ease.
The final ten minutes were very tense for both sides, with frantic action at both ends until the referee blew for time to give Tranch a 4-3 victory.
Next Saturday Govilon entertain bottom of the the table Trethomas Bluebirds (k.o. 3.00pm).
Prior to kick off the club will present commemorative salvers and framed photographic prints to their three players who represented Wales in the Uefa Regions cup in Israel earlier this month.
