Panteg - 0

GOVILON who won at a canter in Saturday's match against Newport Corinthians, found Panteg much stiffer opposition in this midweek encounter.

Panteg were swiftly into their game and forced a succession of free kicks and corners in the opening 20 minutes.

Dean Morgan broke free of the Panteg defence, but placed his shot wide before the Govilon defence were in action again with Jamie Wilkins clearing off the line, and Robert Morrison in Govilon's goal saving bravely at the feet of Panteg's Chris White.

Govilon responded by forcing two successive corners, and from the latter Matthew Stephens headed just wide as the score remained 0-0 at half time.

At the start of the second half Morrison was soon in action again making two quality saves in the space of a minute.

Govilon then produced a series of attacks on Panteg's goal going close on many occasions, and forcing Dan Wise in Panteg's goal to match Morrison's efforts.

At the other end Chris White had the Govilon goal at his mercy but fired over.

Govilon's best chances came with 15 minutes remaining when substitute Danny Marfell set Richard McCarthy free, but his shot was wide of target.

Seconds later Dean Morgan rounded Wise but saw his shot blocked on the line.

Richard McCarthy then fired in a shot which almost beat Wise with the ball ricocheting off his shoulder, as Govilon took a hard earned point, thanks to an outstanding display by their defensive quartet of Robert Morrison, Matthew Prosser, Jamie Wilkins and Craig Salmons.
