Cickhowell 0

Govilon  7

AFTER Crickhowell's pitch survived a last minute pitch inspection, they were undone as early as the seventh minute when Govilon netted the first of seven goals to knock them out of the Gwent FA Amateur Cup.

Dean Morgan opened proceedings after breaking into the box and evading tackle after tackle before measuring an inch perfect shot just inside the post to leave goalkeeper Baynton stranded.

Moments later Govilon increased their lead when Matthew Prosser's strong tackle won the ball and his long pass saw Morgan beat Baynton to the ball and set up Richard McCarthy, who easily beat the sole defender on the goal-line.

McCarthy added another after 20 minutes, snapping up a loose ball in the box.

Crickhowell kept battling back and James Powell in Govilon's goal was ever alert to save a Crickhowell strike which came at him through a forest of legs.

Govilon introduced Danny Marfell shortly after the break and he almost immediately made his mark firing just over the bar.

Jamie Laurent increased Govilon's lead on the hour when his volleyed shot beat Baynton. Richard McCarthy completed a regulation hat trick on 80 minutes firing into the corner of the net, and Govilon went 6-0 ahead thanks to an own goal.

Matthew Prosser rounded off the scoring in the last minute with a shot from outside the area.

Next week, Govilon's Gwent County League side return to league action after two successful weekends in both Cups with a visit to Newport based, Lliswerry (k.o.2.00pm).

Elsewhere in the cup, the Abergavenny Thursdays were knocked out 2-0 by Panteg, and the Blaenavon Blues won their first round tie after County Athletic withdrew.
