GWENT Central Division One side Govilon had their dreams of cup glory dashed on the weekend by Premier Division leaders Trevethin.
Despite going 1-0 up after ten minutes via a Stuart Norman penalty, Trevethin went on to establish a 3-1 half-time lead, before punishing Govilon even more to win the quarter-final tie 6-1 and end Govilon's run in the P&P Open Cup for another season.
Meanwhile, back in the Premier Division, Gilwern and District maintained their winning ways with a 4-3 defear over Goytre, who were initially leading 2-1 at the stroke of half-time.
Gilwern's winning strikes came fast and furious from Adam Carrington, Craig Davies, John Pinkey, plus a headed goal by Luke Williams.
Man of the match for Gilwern and District was Steve Williams. Man of the match for Goytre was Nathan Hewitt.
Usk Town stay in second position following their 5-3 away win over Pandy. Jeremy Barton bagged a brace, and Lee Watkins, George Ashworth, and man of the match Adam Hutchins all scored one apiece for Usk. Kirk Morgan (2), and Neil Gunter did the honours for Pandy.
Llanarth were toppled 4-3 by Pontypool Town after paying a visit to Albion Road. Stephen Morgan, Gavin Phillips, and Luke Williams (penalty) all hit the back of the net, but it just wasn't enough as Ponty run out victorious. Man of the match for Llanarth was Anthony Rennie.
In Division One, a table-topping Clydach Wasps returned to league action following last week's quarter-final cup defeat and reacquainted themselves with the art of victory after beating Sebastopol 7-0 at South Fields.
Scott Ambler and Shaun Williams both scored a brace, and Kyle Cheshire, Daniel Price, and Phil Odowda all scored one apiece. Clydach's man of the match was Matthew WIlliams.
This latest result means Clydach hold a 12 point lead at the top of the division over their nearest rivals Pilcs.
And it was Pilcs who just beat a visiting Mardy team 6-4 in an end-to-end goal fest.
Goal-scorers for Mardy were Matthew Lynch (2), Justin Swain and man of the match Tom Overton.
The Abergavenny Thursdays collected maximum points from their visit to New Inn's Woodfield Rd after winning the match 6-3.
The Thursdays' man of the match Ashley Morgan scored a hat-trick, and Matthew Heritage, Robert Didcote, and Rhys Davies did the rest.
The Blaenavon Blues won their derby match against Fairfield Utd 2-1, after the Blues' Leon Catley scored the winning goal from a rebound in the 87th minute. The Blues first-half strike came from Lee Carrick.
Man of the match for Blaenavon was Marc Browning.
Prescoed stay top of Division Two following their 7-0 derby win over Usk Town 'B'. Prescoed were very much on fire for this match and established a 3-0 half-time lead.
Man of the match Luke Byrne scored a hat-trick for Prescoed, Shaun Seivwright scored a brace, and Nathan Rees and Paul May struck one apiece.
Llanfoist showed Gilwern 'B' little mercy as they thundered to a 5-1 home win, following unrelenting strikes from David Barry (2), Leighton Brown, Wyn Evans and James Cole.
Mark Eacott scored a consolation goal for Gilwern. Man of the match for
Lanfoist was Dean Yhnell.
Clydach 'B' recorded a 5-1 home win over Llanarth 'B' after leading 4-0 at half-time. Clydach's goals came from Andrew Bufton (2), Luke Welsh, Paul Travis and Damian Baldwin.
Justin Chalmers scored the consolation goal for Llanarth.
