Govilon AFC - 6
Malpas Gladiators AFC - 1
GOVILON are through to the last 32 of the John Payne Barber Gwent County FA Amateur Cup after they put Malpas Gladiators to the sword in a fight to the death.
Govilon went one up after ten minutes when smart control by Jamie Laurent in midfield saw him send Richard McCarthy along the right flank who unselfishly set up Dean Morgan to net from close range.
Laurent himself almost got onto the score sheet when he forced a fine save from Jamie Healy who tipped the ball around his post for a corner.
Healy was soon in action again scrambling away a shot from McCarthy, and was lucky not to concede again when Rhys Whiteman powered over a header.
But Whiteman was not to be denied and when Healy went at full stretch to gather a ball, Dean Morgan took the ball from his grasp and crossed to set up Whiteman whose header hit the top corner.
It was Whiteman's head which saw Govilon go further ahead, when he got on to the end of a Laurent cross to make it 3-0.
Malpas could have conceded more as half-time approached when Laurent was denied twice in a minute, and again five minutes after the restart when his shot hit the post.
Elliott Morris spraying excellent passes from midfield, sent Whiteman away and his cross saw Lewis Meadows tee up Richard McCarthy who made no mistake.
It was Meadows who increased Govilon's lead further when his measured effort slid past Healy. After this Malpas, who never gave up trying pulled back a goal before Matthew Stephens brought a fine save from Healy.
The last serious action five minutes from time saw Laurent, pick his spot through a forest of legs as he beat Healy inside his far post.
Govilon will now return to cup action on December 12 when they are home to Ponthir AFC.
Elsewhere in the John Payne Barber Amateur Cup, Goytre were trampled underfoot at Plough Road by the Abergavenny Thursdays (Pictured) who smashed them 1-9 and Mardy run out 2-4 winners in their away game against Portskewett and Sudbrook.
Meanwhile Blaenavon Blues bombarded their way to a 6-0 win over Crickhowell, and Clydach Wasps thrashed RTB Ebbw Vale to the tune of 1-5.
