GOVILON School burned to the ground last night as nearby residents were evacuated from their homes.

The flames could be seen from the Heads of the Valleys Road and paramedics, police officers and fire fighters wore masks because of toxic asbestos fumes.

No one was injured and police are investigating the cause.
