Rogerstone -1
Govilon - 4
GOVILON gained revenge for their cup defeat at the hands of Rogerstone with a well-earned league victory that secures them three more vital points in their battle for the championship.
Rogerstone started the brightest in this encounter and nearly went ahead on ten minutes when defensive confusion almost gifted them the lead.
However it was the visitors who settled and edged themselves ahead on the twenty minute mark when Scott Wall delivered a superb cross that Craig Thomas bundled the ball over the line.
More action followed when Jamie Wilkins rose to meet a McCarthy corner and was unlucky to see his powerful header strike the frame of the goal.
Govilon capitalised soon thereafter when Dean Morgan was set up by Thomas and hit a wonder strike to beat goalkeeper Chorley and make it 2-0 going into the interval.
Morgan was in action again after the re-start forcing Chorley into a desperate save.
Rhys Whiteman beat the Rogerstone keeper soon after, controlling the ball in the box and then letting fly with an unstoppable volley to crown an impressive display.
Rogerstone pulled a goal back with ten minutes remaining when a speculative cross come shot looped over goalkeeper Roberts' head, struck the upright, and bounced into goal.
Jamie Laurent completed Govilon's scoring when he turned in the box and fired to the inside of Chorley's post.
Govilon face a tough away trip to third placed Sudbrook on Saturday(3.00pm) and then face a final run-in of three home games.
Victory in all of these games will mean they are assured of the Gwent County Division Two title.
Meanwhile in Gwent County Division Three the Abergavenny Thursdays suffered a 2-0 defeat at Pen-y-Pound courtesy of PILCS.
