Govilon AFC - 2

Sudbrook Cricket Club - 1

GOVILON saved their unbeaten home record by the skin of their teeth on Saturday after Jamie Wilkins's header found the net deep into injury time.

An out of sorts Govilon side left it late to overcome the visitors after falling behind inside the first ten minutes.

Govilon's failure to clear a harmless looking ball into their left back area, allowed Chris Phillips to open Sudbrook's account with a shot which left keeper James Powell stranded in goal. There was little serious action during the remainder of the first half as Govilon pressed but failed to equalise before the sounding of the half-time whistle.

The second-half saw Govilon still misfiring and they were grateful to a recently re-signed Powell for diving at full stretch to produce a fine save which prevented Sudbrook going further ahead. Dean Morgan almost brought Govilon level after 70 minutes, but Matthew Stevens's cross to the far post just eluded him.

Morgan however was not to be denied and with eight minutes remaining his shot clipped the inside of the post and found the net.

The real drama came deep into injury time when defender Jamie Wilkins stole in to head the winner into the corner of the net and preserve Govilon's unbeaten record.

Govilon who are now flying sky high in Gwent County Division Two East after going ten points clear of their nearest rival, will play Fairfield Utd in round two of the County Motors Challenge Cup this Saturday with a 1.30pm kick-off
