Govilon -11
Trinant - 3
GOVILON absolutely trounced Trinant on the weekend and in the process scored eleven goals for the second successive week - with the prolific boots of Dean Morgan bagging six of them.
The warning signs were there for Trinant from the start when Jamie Laurent was allowed to put in a fierce strike which Howells in the visitor's goal did well to save.
However, Howells could not cope with the lobbed cross which arrived shortly after, allowing Jamie Wilkins to get his head to the ball and open the scoring.
Howells faced more trouble a minute later when the same type of cross caused merry havoc, but this time he managed to scramble the ball to safety.
Dean Morgan increased Govilon's lead after fifteen minutes when his shot from 18 yards curled into the top corner. Moments later Morgan scored again, this time finding the net with the outside of his left boot.
This 3-0 deficit spurred Trinant into action and halfway through the first-half they pulled back two goals in the space of four minutes.
Goal hungry Dean Morgan sensed an early hat trick on the half-hour mark, when he checked his run to stay onside from a Laurent through ball, before rounding the advancing Howells and slotting into an empty net.
It was more of the same eight minutes later as Morgan rounded Howells again, but this time a desperate tackle in the box prevented Govilon from increasing their lead.
Jamie Laurent produced copy book tactics in beating Howells, but he too was denied by a last ditch tackle.
Govilon added two more goals in the run-up to half-time after Howells could not hold Rhys Whiteman's header and allowed the ball to fall out of his grasp and backwards into an empty net.
Richard McCarthy added his name to the score sheet after coolly firing in Jamie Laurent's square ball for a 6-2 interval lead.
Ten minutes after the re-start Govilon roared into action again when Jamie Laurent freed ace marksman Morgan on the edge of the box .
Morgan proceeded to power through the right hand channel to beat Howells with a strike to the goalkeeper's left.
Craig Thomas was in thick of the action on the hour mark after the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, and after beating a defender on the left side he thumped home for goal number eight.
Seconds later a weak goal kick by Howells landed at the feet of Dean Morgan who instantly fired the ball forwards and won the race to net the rebound after his first effort struck the post.
Matthew Stevens who was sandwiched between two defenders, but still managed to direct his header goal-bound, almost increased Govilon's lead even further.
However, there was no stopping Govilon after Rhys Whiteman's pile driver from 30 yards could only be palmed into the net by Howells, as the midfield maestro grabbed his second and Govilon hit double figures.
Dean Morgan completed the rout with ten minutes left, again benefitting from Jamie Laurent's pass as he took his tally to six goals.
And it was scant consolation for Trinant who scored again with five minutes remaining.
On Saturday Gwent County Division Two table-toppers Govilon are away to rock-bottom side Lucas Cwmbran (k.o.2.00pm).
There will still be football at Govilon next Saturday though, as their Gwent Central side are at home in the toughest of cup draws against runaway Premier Division leaders Trevethin.
