Govilon - 2
Crickhowell - 1
THE Gwent Central Open Cup final proved to be a fitting finale to the season with a great match between Crickhowell and Govilon held at Goytre's Plough Lane ground.
The first half saw Crickhowell dominate the play with a strong midfield calling the shots.
Both teams had chances to score with both goalkeepers pulling off some athletic saves. Crickhowell broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute with a corner which was nodded on towards the back post to be easily headed in by an unmarked John Jones.
The second half saw Govilon take control by keeping the ball on the ground and passing to feet.
In the 52nd minute Matthew Heritage put a well weighted pass through to Lewis Meadows who put the ball just past the keeper's outstretched hand into the bottom right hand of the net.
Crickhowell attacked again without managing to break through the solid Govilon defence of Ashley and Jamie Wilkins.
The moment that netted the silverware for Govilon came from a brilliant pass by Craig Phillips in the 70th minute, which split the Crickhowell defence and allowed Matthew Heritage to run through and neatly slot the ball past the keeper.
Govilon would like to dedicate the win to Kirwen Meadows and wish him a speedy recovery from a serious illness.
