A nine-year-old Gilwern girl has shown her creative side by winning a poster design competition run by house builders Charles Church East Wales in conjunction with Gilwern Primary School.
The challenge for the children was to come up with posters promoting the new houses at Charles Church’s The Alders development in Abergavenny Road and all the entries were put in front of the company’s management team.
After much deliberating the team selected Sophia Clark’s design as the winner and presented her with some art equipment for her efforts.
Sarah Foulkes, marketing co-ordinator at Charles Church East Wales, said, “We loved the detail that Sophia had put into her coloured pencil design. There are people talking to each other on the street, cars on the road and even a dog.
“It was nice that Sophia incorporated some Welsh as well!”
Joanne Broad, Acting Deputy Headteacher at Gilwern Primary School added, “The school thought it was such a lovely initiative to involve the children in welcoming the new residents to Gilwern. We’re thrilled that Sophia was such a worthy winner”.
